Western Springs College – the top New Zealand decile 8 state secondary school in 2008.

Western Springs College aims to produce independent, disciplined and motivated learners who are equipped to succeed academically at tertiary level. We measure our effectiveness in reaching this goal by the proportion of our students who leave school with qualifications, especially the percentage who achieve the University Entrance standards. We also take heed of the proportion of our students who make the transition to technical or university courses and, subsequently, the proportion of these students who pass their papers and successfully complete their degrees or diplomas.

At Springs, there is a genuine commitment to nurturing the unique talents and strengths of individual students. We have developed a climate which encourages individuality, creativity and critical thinking. We see ourselves in the business of producing strong, self-disciplined individuals who have been challenged to think for themselves, and who have learned the skills of conducting independent research, devising innovative solutions to problems and communicating their views clearly and confidently.

Another key feature of a Western Springs College education is our concern to develop well-rounded young adults with sound values, including, above all, self respect and respect for others. A balanced education at Springs involves developing the ability to establish healthy relationships with others and becoming comfortable living and working with people from the diverse range of backgrounds which is Auckland today.

Western Springs College is small enough to be able to deliver a high level of individual care and attention to each student, but large enough to offer a rich range of extracurricular opportunities. Moreover, membership of our school community will mean ready access to, and communication with, relevant staff and the chance to belong to a very active and supportive parent network with direct links to senior staff and members of the Board of Trustees.
